The South Korean firm are certainly not wasting their time with getting the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 out to consumers with roll-outs starting as early as the 25th September.

Connectivity

Like the Galaxy Note 2, Samsung have released a 4G LTE version of the  Galaxy Note 3 as well as a 3G edition.  For the sake of a more accurate comparison we are comparing the LTE variants in our infographic review.  It is worth mentioning though that the 3G and 4G editions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 share the same specifications whereas the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 4G and 3G version specifications do differ somewhat in terms of processing power in addition to achieving faster download speeds of up to 100 mbps with the 4G connectivity.

Operating System & Processing Power

Powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos 4412 processor with 2GB of RAM the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 runs on Android v4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) whereas the new Galaxy Note 3 runs on the latest Android v4.3 OS straight out of the box and is powered by a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and with an additional 1GB of physical RAM bumping it up to a whopping 3GB the new model is faster and more powerful.

Display

Samsung have boosted the Galaxy Note II’s 5.5″ 720 x 1280 pixel display with a pixel density of 267 ppi to a 5.7″ full HD 1080 p display with 386 ppi pixels per inch giving much sharper detail.

Camera

The camera has been improved upon too, now using a 13 mega pixel camera in comparison to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2’s 8 mega pixel snapper, with a more powerful flash and better performance in low lighting conditions plus HD video recording.

Memory

Whilst the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is available in 16/32/64 GB variants, Samsung have decided to do away with a 16 GB variant opting opting for either a 32 GB or 64 GB version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with added microSD card slot expansion up to 64 GB as with its predecessor.

Battery performance

Battery life has also improved between the two models with the original 3100 mAh providing up to 16 hours of talk-time (3G) and 890 hours on standby (3G) having been replaced with a bigger 3200 mAh battery.

Design and build quality

The 3rd generation Samsung Galaxy tablet phone’s superior craftsmanship has been complimented by a faux-leather bank panel and stitching effect with an assortment of colours to choose from ditching the glossy plastic.  Despite the larger screen, the Note 3 has lost weight weighing in at 168 g compared to the Note 2 which tipped the scales at 183 g and has slimmed down to 8.3 mm from 9.4 mm.

Round-up

A consumer inspired tablet phone the more advanced Galaxy Note III is ‘slimmer, lighter, larger, faster and longer’ lasting!  And if the Gear Smart Watch companion appeals to you then the decision to upgrade to the new Note 3 is an easy one.  What do you think of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, will you be upgrading or sticking with the Note 2?
